Whether you approach the market as a contractor or a permanent employee, you have either worked or know someone that has worked with the big boy companies, such as Nokia, Huawei, Ericsson etc. I’m referring to the dominant forces in the telecommunications market, those of which support global projects. Some employees enjoy the working culture of the larger organizations, whilst others might have a different opinion on the matter. However, it is difficult to disagree with the vast amount of opportunities available to any worker with these global companies, and to count yourself out of these opportunities because of past experiences or from word of mouth, will only work to hinder earning potential and experience.

Having worked in Recruitment at RIZE Worldwide for over 4 years, I have certainly seen huge changes in how I perform my role on a day to day basis. Perhaps the most significant change is the increasing use of social media. With sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and most significantly LinkedIn becoming more and more popular, it has been vital to utilise these to attract the best talent. Whilst this has helped RIZE to appeal to a broader candidate and client audience, has it de-personalised the recruitment process? Have we lost that personal touch that used to be so important?

When looking for a telecoms job in the UK or abroad it would appear that RIZE Worldwide is the place to come, especially if you are looking for a professional recruitment service. In a recent survey of its contractors 76% of respondents were either extremely satisfied (35%) or very satisfied (41%) with the overall service provided by RIZE, with 70% definitely happy to recommend RIZE to their colleagues. All but 5% of respondents felt RIZE were at least as good as other recruitment companies with 72% saying we were either better (24%) or much better (48%).

Speak to any seasoned contractor and they will tell you that you just can’t earn the same money once you take the forbidden leap into full time employment. ‘’If you include the medical insurance, annual leave, pension scheme it’s an incredibly attractive offer…’’ – the HR manager cries – it is still likely to leave you somewhere short, if the net salary hitting your account each month is what gets your pulse racing. The contracting world, if you dare to dig a little deeper, has begun to offer a little more than money for the soul.
